The palm fruit comprises of a fibrous oil rich pericarp and an equally oil rich internal kernel protected within a shell.
The red palm oil which results from processing the external portion of the palm fruit is widely used as cooking oil in Nigeria, including the well-known “Jollof rice” and for many other purposes.

The inner kernel/shell is cracked, separated, and used to make Briquettes used as renewable fuel for firing steam boilers in industry.
